One of the enjoyable aspects of living at 52 degrees of latitude is that it stays light until late in summer. I was lucky enough to sit in front of where we live and listen to a bird singing and to look at sky still light. I looked at the trees abundant with leaves, and for a moment remembered the same view in winter. I looked at the beautiful flowers my daughter waters every day, and was grateful for her diligence. No wonder people have celebrated mid-summer for thousands of years. I think of everyone I know in he southern hemisphere as their winter solstice approaches, and how the seasons are such a significant part of your life.
