Equinox

Stopforamomentpeople on September 23rd and reflect on the fact that this day is the Autumn or Spring equinox.

As the rain falls heavily, and we have the prospect of less daylight, how can it be that I look forward to autumn and winter? It’s been said often, but it is a time for closing in and coming together. I am ready for it, knowing that trust in God will help take care of the challenges colder, wetter weather will throw my way. As many live in an increasingly urban, digital, screen-based world, it is worth reflecting on the strong pull of the seasons.

In the Southern Hemisphere, the feelings are opposite now. Light, opening up, new life. For the 12% of the population living in this part of the world, different feelings.

In our higher latitudes, we notice the light and the dark. In between the Tropics, where 40% of the 7.1 billion live, there is wet and dry in some countries, then monsoon winds, hot and cool in others. Different seasons, all powerful.

Wherever you may be, take a moment to wonder at how our sun powers this incredible place we call home.
