Back to Borehamwood

Manuela said that we were on a book tour. This, as we sat with ten books in the lounge of my previous care home. It was nice to see so many familiar faces. Forest Care Village has many younger people. It’s quite good being amongst others in the same boat. I will try and visit more.

Afterwards, Sarah, Woody, Andy and I went to Zevi, the Turkish. It’s a spectator sport for me now. Six months ago, I could enjoy a meal there. MND rips through you, and those moments of contrast are very tough. The disease takes away many pleasures.

It’s a hard time. My mum fell and broke her hip. She is being operated on tomorrow. Jane has hurt her shoulder. I am absolutely disgusted by the fire in the social housing tower in London. It says so much about the voice of the vulnerable. I have seen that with MND. The care, financial arrangements and equipment I have is because we all fought very, very hard for it. I met with the widower of someone taken by MND, and, from what I understand, I think that they were badly let down. Folks, you shouldn’t have to ask in your time of greatest need. People need to be housed in safe, decent social housing.

Rarely have I seen such a clueless leader, a leader of anything, as the current prime British minister. If you want to study six weeks of abysmal communication and judgment, wind back from the date of this blog. Rest in peace – Helmut Kohl – giant leader of the twentieth century.

Meanwhile, in the midst of it all, our children continue to impress me, in many ways.

Saturday, June 17th, my friends are walking forty miles in aid of our family.

  2. Thank you for writing all these blogs. They are a gift to us all. Good to read your thoughts for others who are suffering re the tower block fire. It should not have happened, but people who had raised concerns were ignored and worse. This pattern occurs in many areas and It is terrible that you have had to Fight for what you need with MND. Love to the whole family.

  3. Such a pleasure to have you visit Forest Care Village, your infectious smile wins everyone over every time..we know it is not easy for you, which makes your visits even more special. Wishing your Mum a speedy recovery and also to Jane. Look forward to seeing you again soon. If you need help with the health discussion please let me know. Xx
