Last week Sebastian, my nine year old son, and I were lying on my adjustable bed. Jane was out. He set the bed at maximum height. When my phone rang he enjoyed jumping off the bed. After the call, I decided to stand. Not thinking clearly, my socks slid on the floor, I called out and Sebastian grabbed my trunk and the descent to my knees was gradual. I lowered the bed and for ten minutes tried unsuccessfully to get back on. I asked him to pull my socks off; he laughed and I shrieked as my feet bent in new directions. We were both laughing, but what was he thinking? I managed to get my hands onto the opposite side of the mattress. He realised I could not get my legs on the bed, so he lifted them up. There was associated neck pain and almost a breakage at the knee. He did it. How on earth does it feel for him to see this, and to do this?
He is a boy who gets the job done.
Dear Andrew,
I am sorry that I didn’t get to meet Sebastian personally and I hope to meet him next time.
