My Moors

My North Yorkshire Moors. Sutton Bank, The White Horse, hot junior school walk down to Gormire Lake. Lombard RAC Rally on wet and cold November days in Dolby Forest with my dad. Summer job on North Yorkshire Moors Railway, refreshments, ticket office, peanut butter sandwiches, Tim, Grosmont station house. Cycling to Rosedale. Pear Tree Avenue walks organised by Norman Gawthrope. Magnificent coastline, Staithes, Whitby, Ravenscar. Lastingham, our bench, a good place to rest. Ampleforth College golf course, played a few rounds with Sebastian. The purple heather, the yellow gorse, the endless peaty paths. Tetley’s, Sam Smiths, salt & vinegar, pork scratchings. Weekend away with Jane, B&B at Hutton-le-Hole. The Lion at Blakey Ridge, snow. Volunteer National Park Ranger, Land Rovers. Small villages in green valleys, standing at the bar. Ordnance Survey 1:25,000, every grid square fascinating. Wind, rain, cloud, snow, exposed, treeless on the moor.

On June 17th my friends will walk across the Moors to raise money for us. 40 (forty) miles in one day. Whatever the weather, a huge challenge. If you would like to donate, tap here.

20. Hasty Bank

Thank you for walking!
