‘Somehow this has become routine’

Did you her President Obama’s speech after a massacre of students in Oregon? It’s in this link (scroll down a little):

It’s a great speech. Why? It’s a speech delivered with feeling. He is angry and frustrated. He uses repitition to great effect. He says his trips to the podium have become routine, his condolences, the answers from the NRA have become routine. It’s all become routine and nothing changes. He uses pace, silence and his eyes say it all. He is truly exasperated.

I share his exasperation on behalf of the people of the US going about their lives. An NRA guy said ‘the only way to stop the bad guys with guns is to give guns to the good guys.’ How about looking at the mental health issues in a society, what about prejudice? Oh, and some gun control.

Of course we have people who go crazy in Europe too. They kill people as well, but the frequency and scale are much less.

Thank you for these words, Barack Obama, and thank you for giving us a lesson in speaking from the heart.
