If you are from the UK, then you will know what ‘gutting’ means. If you are not, let me tell you. You are said to be ‘gutted’ when something does not turn out as you want. This a football player may say “I was gutted because we was robbed in the 90th minute”.… Click here to read on...

We All Need Perspective
Thermal trousers, sweater, jacket, scarf, woollen hat, gloves, leg cover, on and off several times a day. Over the last few days, I have had enough of all this (it is not even me who goes to the effort of getting it on and off – Jane must have done it 150 times).… Click here to read on...
Consumer Packaged Chaos
As I have written before, I spent the first 10 years of my working life in the consumer packaged goods industry. During the first four years I worked for Procter and Gamble, initially buying folding cartons for Crest toothpaste and Head and Shoulders shampoo. Then I spent two years in sales, selling teenage acne and cough and cold products to Boots.… Click here to read on...
Update on the van
Thanks to the generosity of over 100 people we were able to obtain a VW van to transport my powered wheelchair. We have been using the van for local trips, and it has made a huge difference. As I am no longer able to get in and out of normal cars, I need the van to get around.… Click here to read on...
Night out

Nothing too exciting about that is there? Happens every year, doesn’t it? Well yes it does, but it is still a joy to witness.… Click here to read on...
Memories of the old physical life
Memories of a physical life. Glistening snow on the frozen lakes at Sils Maria as we skied cross-country. The skis are in the garage for another day. Swimming 1000 metres at lunchtime under the sun in Sydney. Walking past the fresians across the fields to Chipperfield. Getting to Annapurna Base Camp and seeing the Himalayas at dawn.… Click here to read on...
Çay ?ekersiz sütlü
45 minutes, from bed to powered chair, via the shower; 14 items of clothing. That is the work of my carer. She makes what seems impossible possible.
I wonder if people are happier now than they were in days gone past. Well, we can’t answer that question. Expectations are higher today than they have ever been.… Click here to read on...
At 48
At 48 years old I am living with a condition which has all but taken my ability to walk and which has significantly reduced the strength in my arms and which has removed a lot of function from my fingers. During the past twelve months my ability to do things has changed completely.… Click here to read on...
Surely not?
Are you in a situation which provokes strong reactions? Do you get overwhelmed with the kindness of some and shocked by the responses of others? I have quite simply never experienced such extremes as during the past week. Our integrity and judgment have been questioned. We have been told we are negligent, we have been threatened (verbally) and we have been insulted.… Click here to read on...
