Thank You

I am now back home. It’s 1am on Christmas Eve. The flight back was short and I slept a little. The trip from the plane door to home was a disaster, because we could not get the electric wheelchair to work. I had great difficulty getting out of the taxi (way too small). I was pushed to the door, and cried my eyes out. Sebastian lay on the concrete with his face on the ground. ‘Don’t cry in front of him’, says my mum. No, it’s part of it. My mum cries too.

I am immensely grateful to Phil and Jina for having me as their guests. Thoughtful, practical, generous, competent, funny, challenging, loving. I’ve rarely experienced anything like it. I am privileged to have met their friends, to have shared meals, church, the Republican Presidential Nomination Debate, to have talked golf, baking.

I have made an incredible group of friends in the Miami area. These guys have given me so much and I know will do. I attended a Jamaican Christmas Men’s breakfast. Fellowship, sharing of the ups and downs of the year, in common that they give it up to the Father. Great food and drinks too.

My walking is stiffer, Jane felt my hand (‘not like it was’), some curling in my fingers. It’s tough on me, it’s incredibly tough on Jane; I cry for Valentina and Sebastian inside. My dad hugs me. My mum too, hard to comprehend what has happened.

Thank you to Jane for doing everything, for enabling me to do this trip. This year I have been to Italy, Sweden and the U.S., while Jane has been at home. I am very grateful.

I take this opportunity to wish those who celebrate it, a peaceful Christmas time.
