Thanks Sam!

How is your June going? Sam, the son of my schoolfriend Tim, is cycling 4,000km across Europe from Brussels to Lisbon, unassisted. You can look at some of his Instagram posts here.

Sam, freshly graduated and having dipped his toes into corporate life, decided he wanted to know more about himself, hence the trip. He’s already got a plan.

Five weeks before he left, he asked me if he could somehow use the ride to the benefit of our kids. He suggested people could donate to help fund a gap year for them, so that’s what we did. Check out the Justgiving page.

Of course, Valentina and Sebastian may not have a gap year, may not go to university and choose a different path. In fact, what I hope is that they don’t follow the sheep and conventional wisdom. It didn’t occur to me that there was anything but office and business.

Anyway, back to Sam, now in Barcelona and with the Spanish east and south coasts to go, before heading north to Lisbon. Brilliant, Sam
