Over the past months I have had some people e-mail me with comments on the views I express in the blog. Your comments challenge me to look at issues in a different way. Maybe I had not seen the subject from the viewpoint of those people. Please keep your views coming, in person, via e-mail or as a comment to a blog entry.
It got me thinking about how we receive information is greatly affected by who delivers it. Most UK Conservative Party voters will switch off whatever a Labour Party person says. Cultural background gets in the way too. The UK Prime Minister, a Conservative, went to a private school known to be where the wealthy ‘elite, ruling classes’ go. A wall of prejudice goes up before he utters the first syllable. Put someone in his role, from the same party, with a more humble, worked up from the bottom background, and the same message would be received differently.
Of course, we do have our filters for a reason, but they need watching.
Anyway, whoever you are, whatever you believe, please keep the comments coming. Trust me, no filters.
I agree with your sentiment on filtration, Andrew, particularly difficult in these post-truth times. You may be familiar with the words of Neil Platt on “The Plattitude” blog, http://www.iambreathing.com/plattitude – I commend it to all those who have an interest in MND / ALS. One of the last things my brother, Steve, said was, “you don’t understand”. Nor could we. Do keep posting. Your words and views are an important filter for all humankind!
